Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s

  • Do keep your smudge pot in clean working order.
  • Do use proper safety equipment when filling or handling your smudge pot.
  • Do allow your smudge pot to cool COMPLETELY (up to 45 minutes) before refilling.
  • Do extinguish the fire in your smudge pot when you hear/see smoke puffing or notice the fuel level is low.
  • Do light the smudge pot with the recommended torch, available from smudgepros.com, or any market equivalent.
  • Do perform a visual inspection of all parts/components prior to each use, to ensure that your smudge pot is in a safe and working order.

Don’ts

  • Do NOT leave your smudge pot unattended.
  • Do NOT refill the smudge pot while lit or hot.
  • Do NOT burn unapproved fuels in your smudge pot.
  • Do NOT light the smudge pot with a handheld lighter or with any other method that could cause injury or potential burns.
  • Do NOT allow children to play on or near the smudge pot.
  • Do NOT allow children to light, or to extinguish, your smudge pot.
  • Do NOT light the smudge pot in any closed building or covered area.
  • Do NOT transport with fuel.
  • Do NOT store, or operate, the smudge pot in any condition where it is susceptible to rain, sleet, or snow.
  • Do NOT light, or operate, your smudge pot with fuel that is contaminated with water, or allow any water to enter the fuel tank, in any event.
  • Do NOT operate the smudge pot in any jurisdiction where it may be unlawful.
